This year’s sowing campaign in Ukraine took place in extremely difficult conditions. Due to the Russian occupation of about 20% of the territories, the areas suitable for agricultural work have significantly decreased. But, despite all the challenges, according to the Cabinet of Ministers, this year farmers managed to harvest 51.9 million tons of grainof which 1.5 million are in the Kharkiv region, said the head of the OVA Oleg Sinegubov.
In 2022, due to active hostilities in the region, 80% of the pre-war areas were sown, at the same time, in the occupied territories at that time, the invaders forbade the locals to sow fields. As a result, 1.5 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were harvested in the Kharkiv region, while last year harvest reached 3.5 million tons. However, it should be noted that in 2021 Ukraine harvested a record grain crop during the period of independence.
The head of the Kharkiv OVA also noted the courage of the Ukrainian farmers, who, despite the shelling and active battles, continued to do their work and even distinguished themselves in “unscheduled” activities.
“Our farmers distinguished themselves not only by effective work during this war. The whole world has seen footage of peaceful Ukrainian tractors pulling enemy armored vehicles“- writes Oleg Sinegubov.
In honor of the Ukrainian “tractor troops” Ukrposhta even issued a themed stamp.
