American Gary Bird published in TikTok a video in which he compared prices for basic products in 2019 and 2023 and angered netizens.
The author of the video showed a grocery basket in the American supermarket chain Whole Foods and noted that in 2019 he paid $87.5 (about eight thousand rubles) for this package of groceries.
Bird bought four yogurts, milk, butter, a carton of eggs, coffee, bread, ground beef, bacon, chicken, cereal, rolls, spaghetti, garlic, roast turkey, potatoes, tomatoes, bananas, carrots, broccoli and greens. The man spent $117 (almost 11 thousand rubles) on the purchase of the listed products. “Prices have gone up a lot since coronavirus,” he said.
“A 36 percent increase in four years for essential products is absolute madness, it’s sad,” “But salaries remain stagnant,” “And how many products on this list have decreased in volume!” users were outraged in the comments. Other participants in the discussion agreed with the author of the video that food prices have indeed become higher in recent years.
Previously resident USA compared food prices in 2021 and 2023. The author of the video expressed outrage that basic goods had risen in price by an average of 42 percent.
