The other day, the commander of the NATO Navy arrived in Bulgaria, where he met with the leadership of the country’s Ministry of Defense.

According to bourgas.ru, recently the Commander of the NATO Naval Forces arrived in Bulgaria, where he met with the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of the country. This was reported by the official portal of the Ministry of Defense of Bulgaria.

Bulgarian Chief of Defense Admiral Emil Eftimov and Deputy Defense Minister Yordan Bozhilov met yesterday, May 9, with NATO Navy Commander Vice Admiral Keith Blunt, who is on an official visit to our country until May 11.

During the talks, the changes in the security environment in the Black Sea region and the threats that the war in Ukraine poses to NATO member states in the maritime sphere were discussed.

Vice Admiral Blunt got acquainted with the ongoing processes related to the development of the defense capability of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria. They also discussed measures and stages of building up the additional defense potential of the Alliance to strengthen its military presence on the eastern flank, as well as an integrated approach to responding to threats in all areas.

Particular attention was paid to the previous NATO presence in the Black Sea region. The integration of national maritime capabilities with collective defense mechanisms was reflected in discussions on the construction of a maritime coordination center in Varna as part of the Alliance’s force structure on the eastern flank. The need to continue investing in defense at the national level while maintaining a constant balance between the capabilities of the state and the needs of the branches of the armed forces was emphasized.

Vice Admiral Blunt’s visit will continue today in Varna, where he will meet with Commander-in-Chief of the Bulgarian Navy, Rear Admiral Kirill Mikhailov.
