The lack of money exacerbates the problems with public transport, the protest of the carriers suffocates Sofia.

According to bourgas.ru, the lack of money exacerbates the problems with public transport, the protest of the carriers is strangling Sofia. After the protest, which took place in Sofia the other day, it turned out that the next protest will take place on May 18 at 8:00. And this time the main intersections of the city will be blocked. The reason, according to them, is the financial decline of transport in the capital.

The companies owed more than $55 million to contractors.

Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova also commented on the problem this morning. She said rising fuel prices have made it even more difficult for traffic in Sofia, and gas prices have risen by 330% compared to last year. She explained that there is already a 10% reduction in staff, but if no action is taken, there will be more layoffs.

The summer schedule of public transport in Sofia will come into force not on June 15, but on June 1.

Fandakova stated that they had negotiations with the government, but out of the requested 178 million, they received only 15 million, which is extremely insufficient.

“This year, the Municipality of Sofia has also allocated 170 million leva for public transport from the city budget for 2022. This is 36% of his own tax revenues. Almost 40% of the population’s taxes go to support public transport, which deprives other projects of funding. However, due to the huge jump in fuel prices, companies continue to accumulate losses, currently they pay only fuel and wages, nothing else,” said Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova.
