According to bourgas.ru, today bread in Bulgaria continues to rise in price, there is already talk that this product will be sold in the country for 2.5 leva. Bread prices rose between the holidays. So, if until recently for mass bread “Dobrudzha” in a package of 830 g they paid about 1.90 levs, then the prices in various stores have already increased and are in the range from 2.20 to 2.50 levs.

At the beginning of a short working week, the chairman of the National Industry Union of Bakers, Maryana Kukusheva, reported that the prices for the delivery of livelihoods had already been increased.

Thus, over the past two years, the price of mass bread has almost doubled, since before the pandemic its price was about 1.2-1.3 levs, having increased by 0.3-0.4 levs.

Over the same period, on international exchanges, prices for natural gas increased by more than 9 times, for electricity by more than 5-6 times (and sometimes more), for wheat more than twice, with the main increase since the beginning of this year and fueled by the war in Ukraine, which is a major producer of grains and oilseeds in the Black Sea region.

Compared to February, the consumer price index rose by 2.2%. This is the biggest jump on a monthly basis (compared to the previous month) since August 2007.

What is happening with the price of bread is the reason inflation will continue to rise in April, as food and bread are at the center of the consumer basket, which is followed by the National Statistical Institute in determining the indicator.
