Leipzig’s first participation in the Super Cup started very badly for the home team. In the 14th minute, the youngster Musiala opened the scoring, then in the 31st minute, Bayern’s new star signing Mané increased the score. The first half was closed in the 45th minute by the French full-back Pavard.
In the second half of the match, Leipzig began to make up for the loss. In the 60th minute, stopper Halstenberg made his mark, but Gnabry soon returned Bayern’s three-goal lead. Mané’s goal from the 71st minute was disallowed by the referee due to an offside position, and Leipzig then managed to dramatize the end of the match. The French striker Nkunku first scored from the penalty spot in the 77th minute, then in the 89th minute the Spanish representative Olmo scored the only goal for the home team. Despite the final pressure, the Saxon team did not manage to equalize and, on the contrary, still conceded from the last action of the match. Sané scored in the eighth minute of regulation.
With ten triumphs in the Super Cup, Bayern is the most successful team in history. Since its reintroduction in 2010, the Bavarian giant has taken part in 12 out of 13 races, winning seven of them.
