Citizen Israelwho arrived in Belarus to visit relatives, they were not allowed into the country because of their subscription to the Telegram channel. Radio Liberty reports this (included Ministry of Justice of Russia to the register of foreign agents).
The Israeli was born in Belarus, but has been living in another country for about 30 years. After the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in 2023, his daughter and young children went to Belarus to stay with relatives to wait out the dangerous time, and on January 16, he and his wife flew to meet them.
As an Israeli citizen said when he arrived at the airport Minsk, the passengers of his flight began to be taken away one by one. His wife managed to get through, but the border guards had questions about him. According to the man, an unknown person in civilian clothes took his phone and began asking him about subscriptions to prohibited channels on Telegram.
During the check, they found that he had a subscription to one of these channels, after which they said that they could not miss it. The Israeli himself claims that he did not know that the channel was prohibited.
He notes that after this, representatives of the Belavia airline offered him to return to Israel for $100. According to the man, he noticed that he should be deported free of charge, but airline employees began to hint that there might not be room on the plane.
In November 2023 in Belarus the court sentenced a man to 15 days of arrest for a photograph on his friend’s page on the social network VKontakte. It was reported that a citizen publicly posted an image in the form of the inscription Belsat in the “Friends” tab.
