Russian schoolchildren were awarded 43 medals at eight international Olympiads in 2022 – 32 gold and 11 silver.

According to the Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Sergey Kravtsov at a meeting with the coaches of the national school teams, the winners of international Olympiads are the pride of the country, its golden fund. The results of the competitions depend not only on the children themselves, but also on their teachers, parents and coaches. The minister expressed gratitude to his colleagues.

This year, schoolchildren showed excellent results in 8 general subjects: mathematics, physics, computer science, biology, chemistry, astronomy, geography and natural sciences for juniors.

For their part, the national trainers also thanked the ministry for its support and attention, noting that on many issues it is possible to interact quickly – this has a positive effect on the results of working with children.

At the meeting, the issue of training talented schoolchildren in the regions, holding the finals of the Higher School of Education in subjects in different cities of the country was actively discussed. According to the coaches, it is important for the regions to send students from local schools to compete, even if they may not win prizes. The experience of such competitions will affect the further success of the guys.

The teachers spoke about alternative international Olympiads in some subjects for representatives of friendly countries. For example, from September 26 to October 2, the first Open International Astronomy Olympiad was held in Saransk. Representatives of 8 countries participated remotely. According to the head of the coaching staff in astronomy, senior lecturer of the Department of Celestial Mechanics of the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics of St. Petersburg State University Boris Eskin, the organizers will continue to develop the new competition. They hope that the second Olympiad next year will be attended by students from more than 20 countries. It is planned to be held in St. Petersburg.

Sergey Kravtsov presented departmental awards to the coaches of the national teams. The head of the coaching staff in geography, the leading researcher of the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University named after M.V. M.V. This year, Russian schoolchildren have participated and achieved impressive success in the following international competitions:

19th International Junior Science Olympiad IJSO 2022 (the guys won five gold and one silver medal).

The competition was held internally in Bogota, Colombia. Russian team submitted six members. Gold medals were awarded to Maxim Chaika from the Vorobyovy Gory school, Moscow, Mikhail Petrov from the Moscow school No. 1574, Gordey Golubtsov from the P.L. Kapitsa, Ekaterina Dorofeeva from the Republican Lyceum for Gifted Children of the Republic of Mordovia and Albert Semenov from the Kazan Boarding School No. 2. Andrei Konstantinov from the Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 5 of the Moscow Region was awarded the silver medal.

34th International School Olympiad in Informatics IOI 2022 (three golds and one silver). The competition was held in the city of Yogyakarta (Indonesia), Russian schoolchildren participated remotely from the campus of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.

Gold medals were awarded to Alexander Babin (School No. 149 in Krasnoyarsk), Danil Klishch (Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 31 in Chelyabinsk), Vsevolod Nagibin (Educational Center – Gymnasium No. 6 Gornostai, Novosibirsk). The silver medal was awarded to Fedor Romashov (SSC named after A.N. Kolmogorov, Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov).

54th International Chemistry Olympiad for schoolchildren IChO-2022 (four gold medals). The Olympics were held on July 10-18 in the Chinese city of Tianjin remotely.

Gold medal winners become Victor Koshlan – a student at the Center for Teaching Excellence in Moscow; Vladimir Mikhailenko – student of the Republican Lyceum for Gifted Children in Saransk, Republic of Mordovia; Nikita Perov from Kazan Lyceum No. 131, Republic of Tatarstan; Artem Gulyaev is a student of the Letovo school in Moscow.

33rd International Biological Olympiad for schoolchildren IBO-2022 (four gold medals and overall winner). The competitions were held in Yerevan in full-time format.

Four Russian schoolchildren were awarded gold medals: Karina Karimova from the P.L. Kapitsa (in Dolgoprudny in the Moscow region), Nazim Mustafin from Novosibirsk and Semyon Shmakov from Moscow. Absolute first place in points took a student of the Moscow school of the Center for Pedagogical Excellence Yakov Korobitsyn.

52nd International Physics Olympiad for schoolchildren IPhO 2022 (five gold medals). In competitions organized by Switzerland on July 11–13, Russian schoolchildren participated individually at the MIPT site.

The winners were Vadim Erin, Phystech Lyceum named after P.L. Kapitsa, Dolgoprudny (Moscow region); Maxim Permyakov, Republican Lyceum for Gifted Children, Saransk (Republic of Mordovia); Daniil Rynkevich, School of the Center for Teaching Excellence, Moscow; Oleg Kalashnikov, P.L. Kapitsa, Dolgoprudny (Moscow region); Ilya Gladyshev, Second School Lyceum, Moscow.

63rd International Mathematical Olympiad for schoolchildren IMO-2022 (three gold and three silver medals and overall winner). Olympics passed from 6 to 16 July in Oslo, Norway.

Galia Sharafetdinova, a graduate of the Lyceum No. 131 of Kazan, and graduates of the Presidential Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239 of St. Petersburg, Ivan Bakharev and Maxim Turevsky, were awarded gold medals. In addition, Galiya Sharafetdinova took first place in the overall ranking of the Olympiad. The silver medal was awarded to Taisiya Korotchenko and Roman Kuznetsov from St. Petersburg, as well as Denis Mustafin from Moscow.

Open International Astronomy Olympiad OWAO-2022 (six gold medals and overall winner). The competitions were held in the capital of Mordovia – Saransk – from September 26 to October 2.

Title of Absolute winner was given to Ekaterina Bobkova, a graduate of the Specialized Educational and Scientific Center (faculty) – a boarding school named after A. N. Kolmogorov of Moscow State University. Six gold medals were won by Ilya Bespyaty (Republican Lyceum for Gifted Children, Republic of Mordovia); Ekaterina Bobkova (Specialized Educational and Scientific Center (Faculty) – Boarding School named after A.N. Kolmogorov at the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, Moscow); Elisey Zhdanov (School No. 2007 FMS, Moscow); Maxim Permyakov (Republican Lyceum for Gifted Children, Republic of Mordovia): Ilya Prosyanoy (School “LETOVO”, Moscow) and Kirill Roshchin (Secondary School of the Center for Pedagogical Excellence, Moscow).

7th European Geographic Olympiad EGEO-2022 (2 gold and 6 silver medals). The Olympics were held from 24 to 30 June, in Belgrade in Serbia. Russian team based in the educational center “Computer” in the Tver region.

Gold medals were awarded to two members of the main team: Artem Ustyuzhaninov and Alena Agapova from St. Petersburg. Silver – Muscovites Timofey Morozov, Antonin Kulapov, Alexander Taimanov, Pavel Zhukov and Arseny Chugin, as well as a student from the Rostov region Denis Pervykh.
